Embers Films is a media production company based in New York City specializing in traditional and emerging media stories that provoke dialogue within communities. Projects range from commissioned advocacy films, independent documentaries, interactive web documentaries, and virtual-reality (VR) experiences.
Embers Films is headed by Aashish Kumar, an award-winning filmmaker with over two decades of experience producing, writing and distributing non-fiction. As a seasoned higher education professional, he has consulted with Universities in India and South Africa for emerging media curriculum, youth media, and for incorporating community-collaboration techniques in journalism and documentary programs. He has also won grants to conduct workshops for community-based organizations to learn participatory and collaborative storytelling techniques.
Aashish Kumar is also a tenured Professor at the Radio, TV, Film Department at Hofstra University, where he teaches television and serves as program coordinator for an interdisciplinary program in emerging media. He is a three-time Fulbright awardee.
